Mick McCarthy criticises Ipswich Town for poor defending at Rotherham United

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy is frustrated with his side's defending as they go down 2-0 to Rotherham United for a third winless Championship match in a row.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has admitted that his side's defensive errors cost them in today's defeat to Rotherham United.

Matt Derbyshire and Connor Sammon scored in a 2-0 victory for the Millers which extended Ipswich's winless streak to three games.

McCarthy told the club's official website "The game was going nowhere when they scored their first goal and it was real poor marking by us. Then we conceded the second goal when we were having our best spell of the game. We didn't defend the corner well enough and it was bad marking again. That's not like us.

"There was nothing special about the deliveries. If we defend like that and lose our markers, it's going to cost you and it did today. We had our chances. Murph [Daryl Murphy] had a great one after 15 seconds. Their 'keeper made a good save and he did that from Chambo [Luke Chambers] later on as well.

"They headed one off the line as well but that's credit to them. They've done their jobs. Once Rotherham scored their second goal they looked to be winners. They played well so credit to them."

Ipswich are now fifth in the Championship table, six points adrift of the automatic promotion places.
