Stefano Mauri returns to Lazio

Former Lazio captain Stefano Mauri agrees to return to the Serie A club after previously leaving in June.

Lazio have confirmed that former captain Stefano Mauri has rejoined the club.

The 35-year-old was released when his contract expired in June, but he has reached fresh terms on a new deal with the Biancocelesti.

"I had never lost hope for a return and Lazio were looking for someone like him," his agent Simone Canovi told Tuttomercatoweb. "He was relaxed during his time as a free agent.

"We had offers from Turkey, India, MLS and even within Italy from a newly-promoted club and a Serie B side. As soon as the FIGC announced there would be no further action against Stefano, we received two calls from Turkey and Lazio.

"We had no need to even consider the Lazio offer. He is happy with this return."

Mauri joined Lazio in 2006 from Udinese and has helped the club to win the Coppa Italia twice.
