Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp suggests that he would rather see Adam Lallana work on his fitness than feature against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said that Adam Lallana is unlikely to feature against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday afternoon.

Last week, Klopp revealed that Lallana was dealing with a "little issue" but could be available for the important Premier League encounter at Anfield.

However, the manager of the Merseyside giants has suggested that he does not want to rush the return of the England international, who has struggled to put a run of games together since a lengthy layoff with a thigh injury.

At a press conference, the 50-year-old told reporters: "Adam trains today. In an ideal world he shouldn't be involved at the weekend.

"He wasn't out too long. It would be better for him to train for next 10 days before Southampton game."

Since making his return on November 25, Lallana has made just two starts and five substitute appearances in all competitions.
