Philippe Coutinho has an outside chance of featuring in Brazil's friendly with England next week, as he continues his recovery from a minor muscle injury.

Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar has confirmed that Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho is unlikely to play any part in the friendly with Japan on Friday due to a minor muscle injury.

The 25-year-old was called up to the Selecao squad despite missing his club side's last three games with a thigh problem sustained against Tottenham Hotspur on October 22.

Coutinho is still in contention to play a part against England at Wembley Stadium four days later on November 14, however, as he continues his recovery from the long-standing problem.

"Coutinho had a muscle injury in the adductor of the left thigh," Lasmar told Globo Esporte. "He is in the final phase of recovery. We knew that he would not be fully fit, but we chose to make his final recovery with us.

"The possibility of him playing against Japan is remote, but we work to make sure he's available against England. He may not be able to participate [against Japan]. If he can, he could stay on the bench and play for a few minutes. But it's a small chance. Our focus is to get him back for the second game."

Coutinho has played a direct part in seven goals for Liverpool in eight Premier League and Champions League appearances in 2017-18.
