John Aldridge excited by Divock Origi arrival at Liverpool

John Aldridge backs forward Divock Origi to become an important player at former club Liverpool.

John Aldridge has backed forward Divock Origi to have a positive impact at former club Liverpool.

The 20-year-old Belgium international joined the Reds last summer before returning to Lille on a season-long loan.

Origi scored nine goals in all competitions for Lille during the 2014-15 campaign.

Despite having doubts over how much involvement the youngster will have at Anfield next term, Aldridge believes that he will be a valuable member of Brendan Rodgers's squad.

"We've bought him very young. He has potential," he told the club's official website. "I saw him in the World Cup last year when he did particularly well for a young kid - he kept [Romelu] Lukaku out of the side with [Christian] Benteke injured. He did himself proud.

"I spoke to a lot of people about him and Simon Mignolet really rates him, so I think it's 'watch this space' really. He's strong, powerful, quick and he has scored goals. He's going to be one of those players who won't start every game but he'll be involved in 50-60%, coming off the bench or starting games. But he is one you're looking for the future to be a star."

Origi has scored three goals in 13 games for the Belgian national team.
