Jordan Henderson: Lazar Markovic was "fantastic"

Liverpool vice-captain Jordan Henderson hails the performance of match-winner Lazar Markovic in their 1-0 victory over Sunderland.

Liverpool vice-captain Jordan Henderson hailed the performance of Lazar Markovic as they recorded a 1-0 win away to Sunderland.

Markovic's goal was enough for the Reds at the Stadium of Light, and Henderson believes that the Serbian is starting to justify his £20m price tag.

Henderson told BT Sport: "He's a fantastic player with great potential. He's hard working on the training pitch and you see the quality he has going forward, so overall it was very pleasing.

"It was a great win and we knew coming here would be difficult, they made it very difficult but in the first half, I thought we controlled it and dug in during the second half and thankfully we got [the win]."

The victory leaves the Reds eighth in the Premier League.
