Former Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo insists that his "amazing goal" against Juventus last season should have earned him the FIFA Puskas Award.

Cristiano Ronaldo has declared that his bicycle-kick effort was more deserving of FIFA's Puskas Award than Mohamed Salah's strike.

Liverpool forward Salah was a surprising winner of this week's award for his solo goal against Everton in December, seeing off competition from Ronaldo's acrobatic attempt for Real Madrid against current club Juventus.

Ronaldo was impressed by the quality Salah's goal, but the Portugal international believes that he should have come out on top in the public vote for the annual accolade.

"Salah, it was a good goal. My goal in reverse, we're serious," he said on Instagram. "Bicycle kick, my goal. Was amazing goal come on guys. Should be honest, don't lie to yourself.

"Of course my goal was the best. Ah I'm not pissed. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I've maintained my level for 15 years. I'm happy."

Ronaldo, along with Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, decided against attending Monday's award ceremony in London.
