Liverpool are reportedly still hopeful of pushing through a move for Lyon forward Nabil Fekir before this summer's World Cup in Russia.

Liverpool are reportedly eager to wrap up the signing of Lyon forward Nabil Fekir before the start of this summer's World Cup in Russia.

Fekir has emerged as one of Liverpool's main transfer targets this summer, although the 24-year-old recently suggested that a move was "not close".

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has also claimed that any deal is unlikely to go through before the World Cup, but Liverpool are eager to speed up the process in case his performances in Russia increase any potential transfer fee.

Fekir is already expected to cost the Anfield outfit around £60m, with the France international seen as a long-term replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who joined Barcelona in January.

The Reds, who are also interested in a new goalkeeper, moved quickly to seal their first signing of the summer yesterday by bringing in Fabinho from Monaco on a long-term contract.
