Premier League newcomers Luton Town announce that they have completed the signing of Barnsley defender Mads Andersen.

Luton Town have strengthened their squad with the signing of Barnsley defender Mads Andersen.

Since earning promotion to the Premier League courtesy of beating Coventry City on penalties in the Championship playoff final, Rob Edwards has been keen to add extra quality to his squad.

However, with an alleged £10m being required to ensure that Kenilworth Road meets Premier League regulations, the Hatters have not willingly thrown money at high-profile additions.

Instead, forward Chiedozie Ogbene has been signed from Rotherham United on a free transfer, and Luton have now returned to the EFL to acquire the services of another player.

Andersen has spent the last four years at Barnsley - three of them in the Championship - with five goals coming from 167 appearances in all competitions and the Dane having established himself as a key man at Oakwell.

The 25-year-old again starred for the Tykes in League One during 2022-23, only for the Yorkshire outfit to agonisingly lose the playoff final to Sheffield Wednesday.

Nevertheless, instead of having second-tier football to look forward to next season, Andersen will be plying his trade in the Premier League with Luton.

Speaking on the transfer, Edwards told the club's official website: "I'm really pleased to get Mads on board. He has been on our recruitment team's list for a long time now. We watched a lot of him last season and he's performed really well and consistently for a prolonged period in English football.

"He's someone who can play anywhere across that back three for us. He's a real good defender, someone who loves defending, and we like ours to be able to do that. But he can play, and there is room to grow, like with anyone we want to bring in and sign.

"He's going to bring real good quality and competition into that position, with us obviously losing Sonny Bradley this summer, but the position we see Amari'i Bell in now, Mads' arrival gives us real quality and competition in that area."

Luton have enjoyed a productive few days with contract extensions having also been handed to Carlton Morris and Cauley Woodrow.
