Danny Mills slams 'complacent' Manuel Pellegrini

Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills accuses manager Manuel Pellegrini of complacency following his team's shock FA Cup exit to Wigan Athletic.

Former Manchester City defender Danny Mills has accused manager Manuel Pellegrini of complacency following his team's shock FA Cup exit to Wigan Athletic.

City went down 2-1 at Eastlands to the Championship outfit on Sunday afternoon as goals in either half from Jordi Gomez and James Perch set the Latics up with a semi-final clash with Arsenal.

Samir Nasri reduced the arrears with 20 minutes to go but it was not enough to salvage a result, and Mills claims that the Chilean coach should shoulder the responsibility for the loss.

He told Sky Sports News Radio: "It should have been a comfortable victory for them. You have to give Wigan credit. [City] gave it a real good go in the last 20 minutes but didn't really create too many clear-cut chances and really test the goalkeeper.

"[Pellegrini] may well have got it wrong. He has to take a lot of responsibility. When you play against a lower-division side you know they're going to work hard, you know they're going to be organised.

"He probably went into the game thinking 'I've got more than enough to beat a Championship side' but you have to question his decisions with the mistakes that led to the two goals."

The Sky Blues, who sit fourth in the Premier League table, nine points behind leaders Chelsea with three games in hand, resume league duties with a visit to Hull City at the weekend.
