Manchester City are reportedly keeping tabs on Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria, who they view as the ideal replacement for Fernandinho this summer.
Fernandinho, 35, is out of contract at the end of this season and is set to leave the Etihad Stadium, although manager Pep Guardiola has suggested that an extension may be possible.
According to the Manchester Evening News, City are already looking at possible replacements for the Brazilian with Zakaria one player they are monitoring.
The midfielder has endured a difficult 2020-21 campaign at Gladbach, with the German club currently sitting 10th in the Bundesliga table.
Gladbach are believed to value the 24-year-old at around £40m, which is a figure City would be prepared to pay.
The Switzerland international, who has less than 18 months remaining on his current contract, has made 24 appearances for the German club so far this campaign, scoring once in a 2-2 draw against Stuttgart in January.
