Report: Lionel Messi wants new deal for Jose Pinto

A report claims that Barcelona forward Lionel Messi wants the Spanish club to renew the contract of goalkeeper Jose Pinto before the Argentine pens a new deal.

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has reportedly demanded that the Spanish club renew the contract of Jose Pinto before the Argentine pens a new deal.

Messi's current deal expires in 2018, but interest from Manchester City has forced the Spanish champions to open discussions over a new contract, which will make the former Ballon d'Or winner the highest-paid player in the world.

According to TV3, however, Messi wants the club to hand a new deal to experienced goalkeeper Pinto, whose current contract expires at the end of June.

Pinto has spent the majority of his seven seasons at the Camp Nou on the bench, but has featured on a regular basis in the last couple of months following an injury to Victor Valdes.
