The Football Association apologises to both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United following a tweet from the official FA Cup account seemingly mocking Harry Kane.

The Football Association has apologised for a tweet seemingly mocking Harry Kane's performance against Manchester United in the FA Cup semi-finals on Saturday.

Jose Mourinho's Red Devils produced a 2-1 victory to beat Spurs at Wembley Stadium, leading to a tweet from the official FA Cup account that included a short video of United centre-back Chris Smalling saying Kane's name underneath a piece of text that read: 'What's that in your pocket, Chris?'

Following the fallout from the tweet, an FA spokesperson has said: "We have written to both clubs to apologise for any offence caused."

The tweet has also been removed from the official FA Cup account.

Smalling and Kane could feature together in the World Cup in Russia this summer, should Gareth Southgate opt to give the United defender a place in his 23-man England squad.
