Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho seemingly aims a dig at full-back Luke Shaw during Sunday's clash with Chelsea.

Former Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has said that the club's new signing Harry Maguire will have to learn to cover Luke Shaw on a number of occasions throughout the season.

Mourinho was speaking during the interval of United's Premier League clash against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, which the Red Devils won 4-0 to start their campaign in an impressive manner.

However, the Portuguese has claimed that Maguire will have to learn to cover for his defensive teammate throughout the campaign, suggesting that Shaw struggles positionally.

"Chelsea moves the ball well but they don't look for an overlap a lot. When they do, Maguire is the one that has to jump on the outside as United's midfield players are not defending in the box," Mourinho told Sky Sports News.

"When Maguire has to cover for Luke Shaw, he will learn he has to do this a lot of times during the season, the space in the face of the ball, somebody has to arrive."

Mourinho previously criticised Shaw when the two were together at Old Trafford, although the England international did sign a new long-term contract while the Portuguese was at the club.
