Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana insists that he "can do much, much better", having struggled to show his best form for the Red Devils this season.

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana has admitted that his form since arriving at Old Trafford has not been good enough, with the Cameroonian insisting that he "can do much, much better".

The 27-year-old was signed from Inter Milan over the summer as the club's new number one, with David de Gea being allowed to leave Old Trafford on a free transfer.

Onana has found it difficult to show his best form for the Red Devils, though, conceding 39 times in his 25 appearances for the club this season, including 15 in six Champions League fixtures.

The Cameroon international has faced heavy criticism for his below-par displays, but he has insisted that "the best goalkeeper in the Champions League last season" has not suddenly "become the worst in the world".

"If I have to speak about my season so far for Manchester United, I am not happy because I know I can do much, much better, I've done it and I know I will do it better than what is happening now," Onana told Sky Sports News ahead of Sunday's goalless draw with Liverpool.

"We are not facing a good moment. I hope things will change as soon as possible. But listen, you want to tell me in six months the best goalkeeper in the Champions League last season can become the worst in the world? Nah.

"Everything is temporary. I know it'll be alright. If not today, it will be tomorrow, if not tomorrow, the day after tomorrow."

Onana kept his sixth Premier League clean sheet of the season at Anfield, with Man United putting in a strong defensive performance to claim a point in a goalless draw.

"We are Manchester United, we are one of the biggest clubs in the world and, against every opponent we play, we want to win," Onana told MUTV.

"We got one point, we fight together, we show a lot of character, a lot of personality but it's not enough. We have to try to win the game. Unfortunately we didn't. We have to put the standard higher. Doesn't matter who we play, we have to go to win.

"I'm [a] Manchester United goalkeeper so you have to be ready for everything. I'm used to playing big games with high intensity, so that's why they brought me here.

"It was a nice game for us to play. We face a very good opponent, but we show we are good players. We are a big club. That's why we are going back with the point."

Onana helped Inter reach the Champions League final last season, with a strong campaign seeing him keep 19 clean sheets in 41 appearances for the Italian giants in all competitions.

The goalkeeper will be bidding to help Man United return to winning ways in the Premier League when the 20-time English champions head to West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.
