Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville urges the Red Devils to hold fire when it comes to their managerial situation.

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has urged the Red Devils to hold fire when it comes to their managerial situation.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as head coach of United in December and has overseen a complete turnaround in fortunes at the club.

Indeed, United have won 10 of their 11 matches under Solskjaer, including eight of their last nine in the Premier League to move into fourth position in the table.

United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and co-chairman Avram Glazer reportedly met with Solskjaer's adviser, Jim Solbakken, following Saturday's 3-0 win over Fulham.

United have reportedly decided that Solskjaer will become their next full-time manager, but Neville sees no reason for the announcement to be rushed, urging the club "to wait until the end of March".

"My personal opinion is to wait until the end of March because I don't think there's any real reason to rush it, to make that announcement today," he said on the Gary Neville Podcast.

"That's not because Manchester United have a run of tough games coming up, it's because it's sensible to reflect after a three, four-month period. I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in with a good shout of getting the job."

United's next two matches are against Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea in the Champions League and FA Cup respectively, before hosting Liverpool in the Premier League on February 24.
