Liverpool's pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner suffers a setback due to the coronavirus outbreak, according to a report.

Liverpool's pursuit of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner has reportedly suffered a setback due to the coronavirus outbreak which has caused havoc across the football world.

The Reds have allegedly identified the Germany international as the ideal player to compete with Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah for a starting spot in the final third of the field.

The European champions were thought to be in a strong position to sign the striker, but according to Bild, the worldwide pandemic means that the deal is now in doubt.

The report claims that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is desperate to meet Werner in person before signing off on a deal, but the coronavirus outbreak means that the pair are currently unable to get together.

As a result, there is allegedly a chance that the Premier League giants will be unable to secure a deal for the 24-year-old ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.

Werner - also linked with Manchester United - has been in impressive form for his German club this season, scoring 27 times and registering 12 assists in 36 appearances in all competitions.
