Liverpool reportedly prepare to offer Napoli forward Dries Mertens a three-year deal at Anfield as they look to fend off Chelsea and Newcastle United for the Belgian's signature.

Liverpool are reportedly willing to offer Napoli forward Dries Mertens a three-year contract as they attempt to secure a deal for the Belgium international.

Mertens will see his current deal at Napoli run out in June, and the 32-year-old has supposedly garnered a significant amount of interest from top sides in Europe.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has reportedly been in contact with the Belgian, and Newcastle United, Roma and Manchester United have all been credited with an interest in the veteran forward.

However, according to TuttoMercatoWeb, Liverpool are stepping up their pursuit of Mertens, and have offered the former PSV man a three-year deal at Anfield.

The report claims that Jurgen Klopp is aware that his side will need to strengthen their attacking options ahead of next season, with Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi said to be nearing exits from Merseyside.

Mertens has chalked up 121 goals from 309 outings for Napoli, including 12 from 29 appearances in all competitions during the 2019-20 campaign.
