Manchester United could sign Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale on a free transfer this summer, according to a report.

Manchester United could reportedly attempt to sign Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale on a free transfer.

The Wales international has a contract at the Bernabeu until the summer of 2022, but Madrid would allegedly be open to the idea of allowing the 30-year-old to leave on a free transfer ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.

Bale is out of favour under head coach Zinedine Zidane, and it is being reported that the attacker's substantial wages could see the Spanish giants cut their losses this summer and indeed waive any transfer fee.

According to Sport, United are keeping a close eye on developments and would be willing to sign the former Southampton youngster on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur have also been mentioned as possible suitors for their former player.

Bale has scored 105 goals in all competitions for Los Blancos but has managed just three strikes in 18 appearances during an injury-hit 2019-20 campaign.
