Manchester United 'enter race for Mateo Kovacic'

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho reportedly identifies Real Madrid's Mateo Kovacic as a potential transfer target as he looks to bolster his midfield options.

Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic this summer.

The Red Devils are in the market for midfield reinforcements following the retirement of Michael Carrick and uncertain future of Marouane Fellaini, and are expected to seal a £52m deal for Fred in the coming days.

However, manager Jose Mourinho is keen to bolster his midfield options further, and Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo claims that he has identified Kovacic as a possible transfer target.

Kovacic recently hinted that he would be willing to leave the Bernabeu in search of more regular first-team football, although Madrid are unlikely to make any major transfer decisions before they appoint a new manager.

The 24-year-old Croatia international made 36 appearances for Madrid across all competitions last season, but started only 10 La Liga games.
