Manchester United have reportedly pinpointed Atletico Madrid keeper Jan Oblak as their primary candidate to replace David de Gea should the Spaniard leave the club next summer.

De Gea, whose current deal at Old Trafford expires in June 2020, has been locked in negotiations with the club for over a year.

Oblak was reportedly open to the prospect of leaving Diego Simeone's side earlier this year, only to recently pen a new contract keeping him at the club until 2023.

According to Diaro AS, United view the Slovenia international as their ideal replacement for De Gea should the latter run his contract down until he becomes a free agent next summer.

Oblak has been an indispensable member of the Simeone setup since joining the club in 2014, making a total of 208 appearances in all competitions.

The current contract offer on the table for De Gea would make him the highest-paid keeper in the world, but the Spaniard is said to harbour doubts over United's capacity to compete for major silverware over the next few years.
