Manchester United 'slash Sergio Romero asking price'

Manchester United slash their asking price for Sergio Romero to £2.5m ahead of the January transfer window, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly prepared to allow Sergio Romero to leave for just £2.5m in the January transfer window.

The Argentine currently finds himself fourth in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's pecking order at Old Trafford, with David de Gea, Dean Henderson and Lee Grant all preferred to Romero.

The former Sampdoria shot-stopper is believed to be desperate to leave and tried to force a move away in the summer, but United supposedly blocked an exit as no team was willing to fork out the Red Devils' asking price of £5m.

However, according to The Mirror, United are now willing to accept half of that figure for the out-of-favour Romero, who was not included in Solskjaer's Premier League or Champions League squads.

The Argentina international is now in the final year of his deal at Old Trafford, although the Red Devils do have the option of triggering a one-year extension.

Romero, who is now 33, has only ever made seven Premier League appearances for United since his arrival in 2015, with the remainder of his 61 games coming in Europe and cup competitions.
