Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt emerges as a summer transfer target for Manchester United, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly preparing to rival Bayern Munich and Barcelona for the signature of Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt during this summer's transfer window.

The 22-year-old has made 98 appearances for the Old Lady since arriving from Ajax in July 2019, including 23 outings in all competitions during the 2021-22 campaign.

De Ligt still has two-and-a-half years left to run on his contract in Turin, but his agent Mino Raiola recently revealed that the Netherlands international was open to leaving Juventus in the near future.

Bayern and Barcelona have been linked with the centre-back ahead of this summer's transfer window, but according to Calciomercato, there is also interest from Man United.

The 20-time English champions were believed to be interested in acquiring De Ligt from Ajax in 2019, but the Old Lady ultimately won the race for his signature.

Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Raphael Varane will all be a part of Man United's defensive unit next season, but Eric Bailly and Phil Jones could be on their way out of the club this summer.
