Mats Hummels 'tells Borussia Dortmund he wants to leave'

Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels reportedly tells the club that he wants to rejoin Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels has told the club that he wants to join Bayern Munich at the end of the season, according to reports.

The 27-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from Dortmund on a number of occasions, with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Barcelona reportedly interested in the defender.

However, Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed earlier this week that the two clubs have opened talks over a move for Hummels.

Bild now reports that the deal has taken another step forward after the player himself requested a return to the Allianz Arena, where he initially joined as a schoolboy in 1995.

Hummels made just two first-team appearances before leaving the club 14 years later, joining Jurgen Klopp's Dortmund side, whom he helped to two league titles and the 2013 Champions League final.

He has made almost 300 appearances for Dortmund, scoring 25 goals.
