Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says that "a lot has to be done" during the January transfer window.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has said that "a lot has to be done" during the January transfer window, with the Gunners needing to make decisions on the futures of a number of players.

Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe, Eddie Nketiah and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are among a number of players to be linked with moves away from the Etihad Stadium in recent weeks.

Aubameyang has been stripped of the captaincy and is not currently being considered for selection, while Lacazette and Nketiah are both out of contract next summer.

Arteta has said that all parties "are in discussions" ahead of the January window, with the Spaniard also suggesting that the club could boost their squad with new signings.

"We are in discussions. We have talks every week about it, how we can improve the team, and what things can happen in the January transfer window that can affect our squad," Arteta told reporters.

"As you know, we have certain players with a little bit of uncertainty in the summer so we have to plan what's going to happen now and what's going to happen in the summer.

"A lot has to be done, we know and we don't expect big things to be happening, but we need to be very alert in the market to see if we can improve the team. We have to be prepared because things can happen and injuries can arise in this period of the season and you have to be prepared and planned."

Arsenal are thought to be interested in signing Manchester United attacker Mason Greenwood, while Juventus duo Arthur and Dejan Kulusevski have been linked with moves to the club.
