RB Leipzig 'rule out approach for Manchester United's Jadon Sancho'

RB Leipzig reportedly end their interest in a January deal for exiled Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho due to the winger's hefty pay packet.

German giants RB Leipzig have reportedly pulled out of the running to take Jadon Sancho off of Manchester United's hands.

The England winger has now been frozen out of Erik ten Hag's first team for nearly three-and-a-half months, having initially been dropped from the matchday squad for September's loss to Arsenal.

When questioned on the absence of Sancho, who has struggled to reacclimatise back to life in England, Ten Hag told the media that he had omitted him from the squad on account of mediocre displays in training.

However, Sancho aggressively hit back at his manager on social media, claiming that he had been made a "scapegoat" during his underwhelming spell at Old Trafford, and he has not been seen in a competitive setting since.

With neither Sancho nor Ten Hag prepared to blink first in their stand-off, the former has been banished from the first-team training facilities, and a January exit is now seen as the likeliest outcome.

Given the 23-year-old's previous impressive exploits with Borussia Dortmund, a return to the Bundesliga has unsurprisingly been mooted, although BVB director Sebastien Kehl has shot down suggestions that Sancho could return to Signal Iduna Park in a swap deal with Donyell Malen.

Instead, Leipzig have been tipped to offer Sancho a platform to reignite his career, but according to The Sun, Die Roten Bullen have ruled out an approach due to the Englishman's hefty pay packet.

Sancho is believed to be pocketing £350,000 a week in Manchester, which is far too steep for Leipzig to contemplate forking out on one player, even though Marco Rose's side would be interested in working with the 23-year-old.

Both Man United and Sancho are said to be keen to sever ties completely, although a loan transfer may be a more realistic option for the January window given the winger's salary, which the Red Devils may need to partially cover to move him on temporarily.

With neither Dortmund nor Leipzig prepared to bow to Sancho's financial demands, the attacker's options are limited, as Man United are said to be against loaning him out to another Premier League club.

Italian giants Juventus were rumoured to have been leading the race for Sancho at one stage, but the Bianconeri have supposedly also ended their interest in the former Manchester City starlet for financial reasons.

In addition, Barcelona are said to have no interest in taking Sancho for the second half of the season, while Saudi Pro League director Michael Emenalo has played down talk of the Englishman joining a Middle Eastern side.

Sancho was one of the hottest properties on the market during his time at Dortmund, where he contributed to 114 goals in 137 matches, scoring 50 of his own while laying on another 64 assists.

However, the 23-year-old only has 12 goals and six assists to show from 82 games in a Man United jersey, and he only made three successive appearances off the bench in 2023-24 before being ostracised from the group.

Sancho is still contracted to Man United until the summer of 2026 with the option of an additional 12 months.
