Southampton are reportedly closing in on a season-long loan move for Manchester United right-back Brandon Williams, who fell out of favour at Old Trafford last season.

Southampton are reportedly closing in on the signing of Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams on a season-long loan.

Following his breakthrough season at Old Trafford during the 2019-20 campaign, when he made 36 appearances in all competitions, the Saints went in pursuit of the youngster last summer.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was reluctant to allow Williams to leave, despite the defender not being able to build upon his 36 appearances, featuring just 14 times last term.

The Daily Mail now reports that Ralph Hasenhuttl is closing in on the 20-year-old's signature, and the manager is keen to resolve defensive issues which saw his side concede 68 goals in the 2020-21 season.

Williams will have to fight for his place in the Southampton starting lineup, as the club have already signed left-back Romain Perraud and Kyle Walker-Peters has established himself in the right-back role at St Mary's.

After coming through the academy system at Old Trafford, Williams has gone on to make 50 senior appearances for the club.
