Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger claims that contract negotiations with Mesut Ozil remain "very much alive", despite the German continuing to be linked with a transfer.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has suggested that he has not given up hope of keeping Mesut Ozil at the Emirates Stadium.

Ozil has less than six months remaining on his contract with the North London outfit and continues to be linked with a transfer to another European giant at the end of the season.

Manchester United and Juventus have been credited with an interest in the German international but Wenger remains optimistic that a new deal could still be agreed.

According to The Telegraph, Wenger feels that negotiations are "very much alive" and that the Gunners "still have an opportunity" to keep the playmaker in North London.

However, there appears less chance of teammate Alexis Sanchez remaining at Arsenal, with the Chilean said to have agreed financial terms with Manchester United over a potential January move.
