Ian Holloway: 'Jackett advised me over Millwall move'

New Millwall manager Ian Holloway reveals that former Lions boss Kenny Jackett advised him to make the move to the Championship club.

New Millwall boss Ian Holloway has admitted that he was impressed with the "pride and passion" in the boardroom at The Den when discussing the possibility of accepting the vacant managerial position.

Holloway has agreed a two-and-a-half-year contract at the Championship side, and the former Crystal Palace chief has revealed that he was advised by the club's former manager Kenny Jackett to consider making a quick return to the sport.

The 50-year-old told reporters: "I was planning on waiting until the summer, but I got a phone call from Kenny Jackett asking me to meet Andy Ambler and John Berylson.

"I had a good chat with Ken, and asked him why he left and he said that he needed a change, but he said that I would be absolutely delighted to meet with these two gentleman and work with them.

"Without a shadow of a doubt, I agreed to do it. We spoke for four-and-a-half hours, and I was blown away with the pride and passion that they have for this football club and how they felt that I was the right man for the job. I'm not used to that, so what more could I say?"

Holloway left his position as Crystal Palace manager in October.
