Mohamed Bin Hammam appeals FIFA ban

Mohamed Bin Hammam appeals his ban from football's world governing body FIFA.

Mohamed Bin Hammam, the former president of Asian football, has started proceedings to appeal his lifetime ban from FIFA.

The 62-year-old was banned by FIFA after he was found guilty of attempted bribery in July.

The Qatari was alleged to have tried to bribe Caribbean officials and buy votes as part of his electoral attempts to replace Sepp Blatter as FIFA president.

Bin Hammam later withdrew from running in the presidential election.

"I have submitted my case to the FIFA Appeals Committee," said Bin Hammam.

"Not hoping for justice to prevail but as a protocol to enable me access to the Court of Arbitration of Sport."

FIFA's ethics committee revealed the reasons for banning Bin Hammam last week, which means he can now begin the appeal process.

Bin Hammam said that he expects the appeal to take two months to be completed.
