Alex Ferguson: 'UEFA considering sin bin'

Former Man United manager Sir Alex Ferguson claims that UEFA are looking at introducing a sin bin into European football.

UEFA are thinking about implementing a sin bin into the European game, according to Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ferguson says that the governing body is looking at following the likes of rugby league and rugby union in giving players time-outs for offences deemed unworthy of a red card.

The legendary Scot, who took up a role as UEFA coaching ambassador upon leaving football in 2013, revealed that the motion will also combat simulation, which he describes as a "disease within the game".

Speaking to reporters in Nyon, the 72-year-old said: "We couldn't get to an agreement about it because it's such a controversial decision to change from what we know to a sin bin, but there was a good discussion about it.

"From UEFA's point of view, it's something that they're looking at.

"It has some merits - in particular simulation by a player which has become a disease within the game."

UEFA president Michel Platini has previously championed the idea of replacing yellow cards with a sin bin.
