Queens Park Rangers are reportedly keen to retain the services of Joey Barton beyond the end of his current contract.
The 31-year-old's present deal is due to expire next summer and following the arrival of fellow midfielder Sandro from Tottenham Hotspur on Monday evening, speculation had suggested that Barton would be allowed to depart Loftus Road on a free transfer.
However, following his return from a loan spell with Marseille in 2013, Barton has impressed owner Tony Fernandes, who is prepared to offer the one-capped England international fresh terms, according to The Mirror.
Barton joined the R's back in 2011 following his release by Newcastle United.
