Julen Lopetegui insists that Real Madrid have no intention of allowing Croatia midfielder Luka Modric to leave the club.

Julen Lopetegui has stressed that Real Madrid have no intention of allowing Luka Modric to leave the club.

The European champions claimed a 3-1 win over Juventus in the International Champions Cup on Saturday night, with the Croatia international playing no part in the contest.

A number of reports have suggested that Real would be open to offers for the 32-year-old playmaker, with Inter Milan rumoured to be among the potential suitors.

However, Lopetegui insists that the former Tottenham Hotspur star will not be leaving the Bernabeu.

"The president has already given an answer, I don't have much else to add," Lopetegui told the Daily Mail.

"Modric's an extraordinary player, we await him with open arms. I talked to him after his excellent World Cup and we'll see if he can play on August 15 [against Atletico Madrid in the European Super Cup].

"I told him he was a player I'm passionate about, I love him and he knows it. He'll be happy with the proposal he receives here.

"He'll be happy to play football, like he already was, at Real Madrid. Luka is a Madrid player and will continue to be, I have no doubt. We've enjoyed having him and we'll continue to do so."

Modric, who has won four Champions League trophies among other silverware in his time with Los Blancos, is under contract in the Spanish capital until 2020.
