Sheffield Wednesday, Wigan Athletic match abandoned

Wigan Athletic's game at Sheffield Wednesday is abandoned due to due to adverse weather conditions, with the visitors leading.

This evening's match between Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan Athletic has been abandoned due to adverse weather conditions.

The away side were 1-0 up in the 60th minute when the referee called the game off at Hillsborough.

Nick Powell almost gave the visitors an early lead, but he headed Stephen Crainey's delivery over the bar.
Ben Watson was next to threaten, when his free kick was tipped over the bar by Damian Martinez.

The home side came close as Jacques Maghoma forced Scott Carson to push his powerful effort wide.

Midway through the half, Wigan took the lead, as James McClean slotted home from inside the box.

Powell wasted a great chance to double their lead, but after being played through by James Perch, he fired the ball straight at the keeper.

Liam Palmer almost brought the hosts level at the start of the second half, when his effort from inside the box struck the post, but the referee decided that the conditions were too dangerous for play to continue and soon called the game off.
