Ryan Bertrand: 'We cannot get carried away against Manchester City'

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand insists that his side cannot get carried away with the importance of their Premier League clash against Manchester City.

Southampton defender Ryan Bertrand admits that his side cannot let the occasion get the better of them in their crucial Premier League showdown against Manchester City.

Ronald Koeman's men can put down a statement as genuine top-four contenders with a win over the Citizens, which would close the gap to Chelsea to four points at the top of the table.

However, Bertrand has insisted that he and his teammates must not get carried away with importance of the clash and feels that they have to treat it like an ordinary game.

"It's a game that we're looking forward to," Bertrand told reporters. "We're very looking forward to imposing ourselves against a team that's very close to us in the table.

"There's a lot riding on this game but, at the same time, it is another game. You just have to play the game and not the occasion, really, and go out there and do the same job.

"There's only three points at stake – there's not six for this one – but we'll be right up for it and hopefully we can get them."

Ronald Koeman has claimed prior to their clash with City at St Mary's Stadium that his Saints side have yet to face a better team in the Premier League this season.
