Michel Vorm: Tottenham Hotspur "close but so far away"

Michel Vorm admits to being 'devastated' following Tottenham Hotspur's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, ending his side's hopes of winning silverware this term.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Michel Vorm has said that his side "are close but so far away" after being knocked out of the FA Cup at the semi-final stage.

The Lilywhites' wait for silverware of any sort will stretch into an 11th year as a result of Sunday's defeat to Manchester United at Wembley Stadium, having thrown away an early lead to lose 2-1.

Spurs are now top-four regulars under Mauricio Pochettino and have won over many neutrals with their style of play, but Vorm concedes that it ultimately counts for little unless they can end their trophy hunt.

"We are close but so far away," he told reporters after the match. "I think we dominated most parts of the game and even though we didn't create much, yeah, it's just it's a shame that we didn't reach the final. Of course [we believed], and I think we showed the way we started, the confidence we played with.

"I think if you see in the dressing room now, it's a mess. And it sounds a bit cliched maybe, but we need to learn from this as well and I still believe that there's so much more to come for us, you know? It just takes time.

"At the moment, it's hard to believe but we need to keep on going, keep on pushing, working and learning from these kinds of games. Because at the end it's about reaching these finals and trying to win something. I definitely believe that we can do better than this with this group.

"I don't know if it's luck or just a little step, you know? It's hard. It's hard to say this is it. I think we showed against the Real Madrids and all the other games that we can do it. But like today or against Juve, these are the moments that, yeah, we're playing well but we can't just take that last step. But I just can't say 'this is it'. It's just devastating, to be honest."

Tottenham have another eight days to stew on the loss as they do not return to action until April 30 with a league clash against Watford.
