Tottenham Hotspur willing to let Benoit Assou-Ekotto leave for free?

Tottenham are believed to be willing to let left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto leave the club for free this summer as they try to reduce the numbers in their squad.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly prepared to let Benoit Assou-Ekotto leave for free this summer as they attempt to reduce the numbers in their squad.

There are currently 33 senior players on the books at White Hart Lane, but the Cameroonian left-back is believed to be one of those surplus to requirements.

Danny Rose was the regular in his position while Assou-Ekotto was on loan at Queens Park Rangers last season, while new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has signed Ben Davies from Swansea City to knock him further down the pecking order.

With Harry Redknapp's Hoops yet to make an approach to sign him permanently, the Daily Mail claims that Spurs are prepared to release the 30-year-old from his contract, which has one year left to run.

Assou-Ekotto has made 205 appearances for Tottenham since joining from French club Lens in 2006.
