Garry Monk defends Swansea City style

Swansea City manager Garry Monk says that the players are happy with their style of football, but admits that it is getting harder to dominate matches with possession.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has shrugged off criticism of his side's playing style after Saturday's defeat to Arsenal.

The Swans were unable to turn patient passing and possession into chances as the 3-0 reverse at the Liberty Stadium left them with just one win from their last eight matches.

Monk's team are 13th in the Premier League table after a record eighth-placed finish last season, but he is adamant that his players are still happy with the football being played at the club.

"We have had more possession in the last two games than the opposition," he told the South Wales Evening Post. "The game changes. From when we were promoted to where we are now, the game has totally changed.

"Teams are tactically better now and when we came into the league I think that we were quite unique in how we set about in trying to get that possession. A lot more teams now are trying to gain that possession as well so it is a lot harder to totally control games.

"I am very happy with the way we play. Ask the players themselves, I think that they are happy with it. There are many different ways of winning games, there are many different ways of trying to dominate a game. Last season I talked a lot about being adaptable, that is the way that I see the game. You cannot just play one way. You need to have different ways of winning."

Next up for Swansea is a trip to Carrow Road to face Norwich City on Saturday.
