Garry Monk baffled by penalty decision

Swansea manager Garry Monk is baffled by the "bizarre" decision to award Crystal Palace a penalty in the 81st minute of their 1-1 draw this afternoon.

Swansea head coach Garry Monk has slammed referee Mike Dean's decision to award a penalty against his side during this afternoon's match against Crystal Palace.

Palace earned a point at the Liberty Stadium when Chico Flores was penalised and sent off for a foul on Glenn Murray in the 81st minute, although the incident appeared to take place outside the box.

Monk was livid after the match and labelled the decision "bizarre", pointing out that Dean had failed to consult his officials before awarding the spot kick.

"One hundred percent, outside the area. For me, why is the referee making a decision from 60 yards away that he clearly has no view of being able to tell that?

"I looked straight at him and he didn't confer with his assistant, or his linesman, and the linesman's not flagging for anything. He's not flagging for a penalty, so [Dean] has decided to make a bizarre decision.

"The lead-up to that incident, we should have dealt with better. We caused our own mistake. It was like he couldn't wait to give the penalty and he couldn't wait to give the red card. The red card I'm not so sure - maybe it was, maybe it wasn't - but the penalty is not a penalty."

The result extends Swansea's winless run to six games in all competitions.
