Walter Mazzarri: 'Heurelho Gomes suffered big knock to knee'

Watford manager Walter Mazzarri reveals that goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes suffered a "very big knock" to his knee during the 6-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

Watford manager Walter Mazzarri has revealed that Heurelho Gomes suffered a "very big knock" to his knee during Sunday's Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

Gomes was forced off after just 33 minutes with his side already two goals down on their way to a 6-1 drubbing at the hands of the new league leaders.

Mazzarri revealed that the full extent of the injury will be discovered in the coming days, and also outlined his plan to talk to the team after the international break in order to ensure that they are not on the end of such a one-sided scoreline again.

"After the international break I will sit down with all the players and with my experience I will tell them what we need to do in the next days," he told reporters.

"In my opinion against a team like Liverpool you can lose but I'm not happy to lose in this way. We have to work tactically and psychologically to play against a team like this and for this not to happen again.

"[Gomes] had a very big knock on the knee. We need to check in the next days if it is twisted, we will know in the next days."

The heavy nature of the defeat means that Watford now have the joint worst defence outside the bottom four.
