Jason Day still on top at Players Championship with holes to play

World number one Jason Day holds a three-shot lead over the Players Championship field after continuing his bogey-free start to the tournament at TPC Sawgrass.

World number one Jason Day has extended his lead and still has holes left to play after the second round of the Players Championship was interrupted by stormy weather.

The Australian tied the course record with a nine-under-par opening round of 63 at TPC Sawgrass and now sits at 14-under thanks to five birdies in 14 holes in round two.

Day, who is yet to make a bogey this week, was unable to complete his round due to a two-hour delay because of lightning in the Ponte Vedra Beach area and will finish up before the third round starts later today.

Day is three shots ahead of Ireland's Shane Lowry, who holds the current clubhouse lead of 11-under having gone round in 68 on Friday.

Colt Knost (-9) equalled Day's 63 from the first day, but it would have been a new record 62 had he not three-putted his last hole.

World number three Rory McIlroy (-8) also missed out on a record score by surprisingly bogeying his final hole when a birdie on the par five would have got him to 62.
