Former Premier League footballer Clarke Carlisle has been banned from driving for three years after pleading guilty to a drink-driving offence.
The 35-year-old failed to provide a sample through a breathalyser to police after he was caught driving 'erratically' on Pentonville Road, London on December 20 last year.
The former chairman of the Professional Footballers' Association almost crashed into a Tesco delivery truck during the incident, which occurred just weeks before he tried to commit suicide by jumping in front of a lorry on the A64 in Yorkshire.
At Highbury Magistrates' Court this afternoon, Carlisle was issued with a three-year driving ban and was also sentenced to 150 hours unpaid community service.
According to The Mirror, Carlisle, who has been struggling with depression for many years, hugged his legal team outside of the court and told them: "Thank you, you're wonderful."
The former Burnley defender has also been ordered to pay £145 in costs and a surcharge.
