St Helens 16-42 Wigan Warriors

Josh Charnley scores two tries and adds five goals in a comfortable 42-16 win for Wigan Warriors against St Helens.

A first half littered with tries has seen Wigan Warriors cruise to a 42-16 victory over St Helens at the Etihad Stadium.

Wigan started in superb fashion as they immediately took control of the match with four tries in just over 20 minutes.

Sam Tomkins scored the first try of the contest in the sixth minute before Gareth Hock added a score of his own five minutes later.

Josh Charnley got in on the act in the 19th minute and St Helens were left reeling when Tomkins added his second just moments later.

A superb kicking display from Charnley and a well worked try from Sean O'Loughlin seemed to be putting the match beyond the Saints' reach but a Paul Clough try ensured that they kept their slim hopes alive.

Charnley's best moment of the match came when he broke through the Saints defence once again to double his try tally for the evening.

George Carmont's try realistically ended the match as a contest but the drama was not finished as Saints' Shaun Magennis and Wigan's Hock were both shown a red card for their part in an altercation between members of the two teams.

Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook and Paul Wellens both added consolation tries before Wigan's Liam Farrell completed the scoring for the visitors.
