British Olympic Association chairman Lord Moynihan has called for an investigation into the disappointing performance of British swimmers at London 2012.
The British team were set a target of five to seven medals but only won three, none of which was gold.
"On swimming there is a lot of analysis needed. I know they are bitterly disappointed and they are going to have to look at it," said Moynihan.
"They are going to really drill down into the whole preparation.
"I went to their training camp, they were cautiously optimistic with a lot of talent but it didn't come together, so there will be in-depth analysis on why."
The BOA will be particularly disappointed with the result as British Swimming received £25m of funding in the last cycle.
