British number two Dan Evans continued his impressive run at the Citi Open with a shock win over second seed Frances Tiafoe in the quarter-finals.

Only a few hours after getting the better of Russia's Alexander Shevchenko in round three - a match which was delayed due to inclement weather - Evans recorded a 6-4 7-5 victory over Tiafoe.

In a terrific watch for the neutrals, Tiafoe lost his serve in the opening game of the match thanks to a pair of double faults, and Evans beat away two break points for the American to glean an early lead.

Evans lost just four points on his first serve throughout the opening set, but an astonishing second-serve win rate of 86% carried him through the second set, as Tiafoe recorded 10 aces to no avail.

Once again, the home favourite was broken straight off the bat, but an error-strewn sixth game from Evans allowed Tiafoe to level the second set at 3-3.

Tiafoe's reprieve was short-lived though, as Evans reeled off a trio of winners in the 11th game to lead his opponent once again, and the Briton saved one break point while he was serving for the match before completing the job.

Evans's reward will be a clash with Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov in the final four, but his compatriot Andy Murray was knocked out in three sets by top seed Taylor Fritz.
