Fourth seed Tomas Berydch drops the opening set to Daniel Gimeno-Traver but responds to win over three sets at the Miami Masters.

Tomas Berdych survived a scare today to reach round three of the Miami Masters, but was pushed all the way by Daniel Gimeno-Traver.

The Spaniard claimed a tight opening set 7-5, showing neat touch at the baseline and strong serving to surprise the fourth seed.

Berdych slowly found a response and forced a tense tie-breaker in the second set.

Gimeno-Traver finally wilted as Berdych came though the breaker to force a deciding set.

Berdych cranked up the pressure early in the third and forced a telling breakthrough, breaking serve in successive games to build a decisive lead.

After two hours and 16 minutes Berdych finally booked his place in round three, securing a 5-7 7-6(3) 6-2 win over the gutsy Spaniard.
