The Atlanta Falcons have confirmed that they have hired Dan Quinn as their new head coach.
The Falcons fired Mike Smith at the end of the season following the club's failure to reach the playoffs, and interviewed several candidates for the role.
However, the franchise opted to hire Quinn on a five-year deal following his exploits as the defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks for the past two seasons, helping them become the top-ranked defensive unit in the league.
"We were looking for a leader with a clear vision of success," owner Arthur Blank told reporters.
"We felt so strongly that he was the best coach for us that we stayed patient throughout the playoffs and the Super Bowl."
Quinn was part of the Seahawks' staff that lost Super Bowl XLIX to the New England Patriots on Sunday.
