The Buffalo Bills announce that Damar Hamlin has been discharged from hospital a week after suffering a cardiac arrest against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Buffalo Bills have announced that safety Damar Hamlin has been released from hospital as he continues his recovery from a cardiac arrest.

The 24-year-old collapsed on the Paycor Stadium field during the Bills' clash with the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday after tackling Tee Higgins.

Hamlin had briefly risen to his feet before falling down, but medical personnel managed to restore his heartbeat in the stadium before he was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Hamlin showed "remarkable" signs of improvement at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, and he has now returned home after spending a week in hospital.

"We are thrilled and proud to share that Damar Hamlin has been released from the hospital and returned to Buffalo'" the Bills said in a statement. "He is doing well and this is the next stage of his recovery."

The Bills' game with the Bengals was immediately postponed after Hamlin's collapse and will not be replayed, although both teams' places in the playoffs were not impacted by the decision.

Buffalo will host the Miami Dolphins in their Wild Card round fixture on Sunday.
