Chicago Bears sack head coach Marc Trestman, general manager Phil Emery

The Chicago Bears confirm that head coach Marc Trestman and general manager Phil Emery have been fired following the club's poor 2014 campaign.

The Chicago Bears have announced that they have fired head coach Marc Trestman and general manager Phil Emery.

Trestman joined the Bears in 2013 and led them to an 8-8 record as they narrowly missed out on a place in the playoffs to the Green Bay Packers, despite losing quarterback Jay Cutler for a portion of the season.

However, the Bears struggled throughout the 2014 campaign and reports suggested that there was a great deal of tension in the locker room. This came to a head when it was revealed that offensive coordinator Aaron Kromer criticised Cutler while talking to a reporter.

Trestman's men finished the season with a 5-11 record sealing his exit from the club, while he was joined by the man who hired him, Emery, who leaves the franchise after a three-year tenure as GM.

"I also want to thank all the coaches and players who gave us everything we asked over the past two years," Trestman said in a statement.

"I have tremendous respect for this organisation. Chicago is a special city with great fans. I appreciate the warm support my family and I received."

Emery added: "This job was the opportunity of a lifetime. My only regret is we didn't win enough games for that opportunity to continue."

Trestman posted a 13-19 record in his two seasons at Soldier Field.
