Quarterback Jason Campbell has signed a two-year contract with the Cleveland Browns.

The 31-year-old had been a free agent following one season with the Chicago Bears, where he acted as backup to Jay Cutler.

Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said in a statement: "Jason is an established leader who has started a number of games in this league and has had success.

"He brings us a veteran presence and a good set of physical tools. He played in a similar system when he was in Oakland, and that will help in his transition."

Campbell is expected to compete with Brandon Weeden, who was Cleveland's starting quarterback in 2012, for the starter's role.
